I am trying to install Ubuntu When I reach the Installation type step, the panel which is supposed to show devices and partitions looks empty. I have already tried the following two solutions without any success:.

I am sure it's not a hardware related problem as I have already successfully installed another operating system on the same computer. I have exactly the same problem. Finally Ubuntu It works now. I didn't check if Windows which is installed in a partition of that disk complains about this. After doing this the installer did detect the hard drive and installed Ubuntu alongside the other operating system.

Another problem I had after applying the workaround was that the boot loader didn't show up on the next boot but the other operating started booting without any prompt. I've fixed this other problem by identifying the Ubuntu partition with:. Some SATA ports have different controllers on the motherboard. When these ports are operating in new-ish modes then it is possible that Ubuntu wont understand how to use them.

Switching SATA ports and changing the modes to the most universal often solves these types of problems. Just for others who might stumble upon this, I had the same problem but it was due to my apple raid card.

I want to run a linux server os on it, so I figured I would start by trying Ubuntu Server. So I downloaded the lastest Ubuntu Server Burned the iso to a dvd It then gave me an option to try and select a driver and see if that works. Well it still fails to detect a drive. So I shut down the server and boot into Ctrl-R, and I check the PD Mgmt screen and it seems to be detecting the hard drive just fine and says "status:ready".

I read somewhere online during my frantic searching, that I could try setting up a Virtual disk. I set the size, and the name and selected my drive, but it wouldn't let me select "ok" to actually create the VD. You must select the Advanced and Initialize boxes when configuring it. Older firmware may have had issues with certain types or sizes of drives. Also, what is the model of the drive you are using?

You should be using an enterprise-class drive at a minimum. Ubuntu has no problem with 2TB drives. GPT is needed for larger than 2TB disks which would be unnecessary here.

I really didn't want to buy one of the Dell drives that came with the server, as they are a ton of money and are really small drives. I didn't need the 10, 15k speed. Other than that, I tried checking advanced, and initialize, but the "OK" button was still locked out. You can purchase these from third-party suppliers for usually much less then Dell sells them for, especially through the original configurator. There isn't really another answer that is obvious from what you told me.

It is possible updating the firmware will help it communicate more effectively with the drive. There is a big difference between enterprise and consumer drives Yea, that's what I was worried about Even though that price is actually cheap for that drive, its still to much for me to want to spend the money on. I mean the whole server isn't even hardly worth that much anymore.

And this is only the two dual core xeon model. Im really only using it as a hobby, just to maybe use as a file server to backup my personal computers files, and to get some server experience.

I wanted to hook it up to my existing cisco equipment to kind of create my own little network. As a last chance effort, how would I go about updating the firmware? I found the firmware for 5. But the only install file options are floppy, windows or Linux. Not having any OS installed, and lacking a floppy, Im unsure how I would install the new firmware. All it detects is the USB memory stick that I booted from.

no disk drive was detected ubuntu install

I have Windows 7 on my disk. There is about 50GB free space which I planned to use for Fedora. The problem is that the partition menu gives me these 3 options: 1. Configure iSCSI volumes 2. Undo changes to partitions 3. Finish partitioning and write changes to disk There are no options for defining partitions or any hard drive during installation.

After searching the internet i found that the problem because the solid state disk SSD cache. How I install a Debian 8 with computer which has a hard disk drive and a solid state disk cache. Went to install F12 via the live CD and it says no drive was detected. I was using the bit version of the live CD so I downloaded the bit version but I have the same problem!

My bios is also as high as it can go, they stopped making my board. When I try to install Ubuntu I have Windows 7 on a partition, left a space unpartitioned, then tried to install it. Coudn't detect the disk, so I booted to live ubuntu, and created a ext3 partiton with Gparted, it still doesn't detect. Also tried completly formating the disc.

Still Doesn't detect. The strange thing is that in the ubuntu desktop when i boot with Live usb, the disk is there. I was also able to create the partition as i described before. A few weeks back I was trying to install this alongside windows 7 and no matter what I tried it would not install. I tried both 9. No matter how many times i reburned and redownloaded.

It was set as hard drive 0 in windows hard drive manager or whatever. So I unplugged it. Now my windows drive is drive 0, and I have a second internal drive. I finally got back to installing this. I avoided the graphical installer at first because it was so slow, opting for the alternate cd.

Server hard drive not showing during OS setup

It went fast but when I tried to partition it was unclear to me which disk i was partitioning. Windows ran the disk check, etc, etc, I checked the disk management in windows and it was just a single windows partition as it should be. So I tried the graphical cd again instead. Just my second internal drive which of course I can't install on without wiping the entire thing.

I have installed kubuntu 9.
